In social studies the students learn about community helpers, America–our country’s heritage, and children from ten different countries. Kindergarteners also have science. They learn about God’s plan for seeds, animals, the seashore, health, weather, and seasons. Bible, computer, music, and physical education classes round out the curriculum.

Elementary Grades 1-6

The A Beka Book Curriculum is used for the language arts program. The curriculum provides the tools students need to write and speak clearly and effectively and to read with comprehension, appreciation, and discrimination. The students have reading, phonics, language, creative writing, penmanship, and spelling. Arithmetic is taught using the spiral approach to learning. Each year the students review formerly learned concepts and skills, and then go from the known to the unknown. Story problems and frequent problem strategies make arithmetic practical.

Science and health are taught in each of the grades. These subjects are studies of God’s order, provision, and reasonableness as revealed in His physical creation. The books present God as the Great Designer and give students a solid foundation in all areas of science–a foundation firmly anchored to Scriptural truth. Hands-on activities are provided as appropriate.

History makes up part of the academics at Southpark Christian School. The students begin studying about America’s famous people, scientific advances, major events, travel, communication, and ways of thinking in grades 1-3. The 4th grade students also study about Oklahoma and make state notebooks during the 2nd semester. Fifth graders study the Eastern Hemisphere beginning with the Middle East where history began and then continue with the history, geography, and culture of Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, Oceania, and Antarctica. Sixth graders study the history and geography of North, Central and South America

Students in elementary grades also have classes in computer, music, physical education, and Bible.

The A Beka Book curriculum provides the teachers with lessons in narrative style for Bible in grades 1-3, and then the fourth and fifth graders use Bible textbooks. The students have memory verses, learn Bible stories, and learn to apply scripture to daily living. We believe the lessons should flow from the Word of God through the heart of the teacher to the heart of the student.
